Good! I mean I have doubts that A-10 would be especially useful against any opponent with modern air defenses (and will get less so over time) , but unlike the F-15EX, it’s at least inexpensive, so it’s much more reasonable to keep it around for use in uncontested air space.

Glad to hear you’re just run-of-the-mill sick, hope it passes quickly. I came down with influenza A in early March, when the guidance was still “if you haven’t visited a hotspot you’re fine” which we all knew was bullshit, but that was the only answer they’d give me.

I mean, stupid idea. There’s literally nothing else in the USAF (hell, the rest of the world) that can fill its shoes.
T he idea of it being replaced by the F35 is laughable.
B rings to mind WW2, specifically the P51 vs P47. Around the time of D-Day, all available fighters got ground support duty. And what they found out... w as there was no point sending in the P51's. Being water-cooled, and without armour for the cooling system, they got murdered by the ground fire. P47' s proved far less vulnerable. As a result, instead of mixing and matching whatever was available to the ground assault job, P51's got reserved for the escort job where they were fantastic, and P47's did the strafing.
Yada yada if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree...

This is all true, however the A10 is better suited to the confl icts of today than pretty much anything else. It may originally have been a tank buster, but all the qualities that gave it make it well fitted for anti- guerrilla type operations as well.
As far as cost goes, I’d argue that by very design it’s cheap and dirty, and while I believe a modern replacement would be a good idea, it’s not happening anytime soon. And like an aging athlete whose game is based on smarts rather than speed, it doesn’t matter. Keep it running. As far as the USAF is concerned, it’s the monetary equivalent of me t hrowing away a penny.

To be fair, it wasn’t going to hold up well to soviet air defenses in the 80s either. Things (and people) were envisioned to be a bit more expendable if blows ever came between the usa and ussr.
